Hello... my name is Kate and I'm the creator and maker behind Beryl & Silver.

Beryl & Silver is a small, independent jewellery brand based in the glorious Somerset countryside. Everything is consciously designed and made by me by hand using sterling silver, recycled sterling silver, and semi-precious and precious stones. Every order raises money for charity and each piece of Beryl & Silver jewellery is unique - just like you.

I created Beryl & Silver in memory of my nan - her name was Beryl but, to me, she will always be known as Nanny B.

Professionally, she was a senior psychiatric nurse of 35-plus years and met my grandad, also a senior psychiatric nurse, on the wards of Claybury Psychiatric Hospital in Greater London, named as the most important asylum built in England after 1875. I've been full of pride for both of them all my life. Personally, and Nanny B was kind and loving, with sparkly eyes and a cheeky sense of fun. She loved fish and chips, donkeys, and campervans. She was also a bit of a magpie! She passed her love of jewellery down to me at an early age. One of my favourite memories of us was when we would walk to the village jewellery shop where we would spend ages looking at all the sparkles in the window. We would discuss the colours, the cut of the stones, the designs, the length of the necklaces, the hang of the hoops, and - more importantly - which piece she was going to save up for. The last piece she bought was a beautiful amethyst and diamond ring and I still treasure it to this day.

Me? Well, I love aquamarine (a type of blue Beryl and Nanny B's birthstone), the seaside, new trainers, dogs, writing, and sitting in the beer garden of a Somerset pub, eating local food and sipping a gin and tonic. I'm also a very innappropiate giggler... another quality handed down to me from Nanny B! I've been making jewellery since I was a teenager, when I mainly created earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and hat pins for myself and my friends. Fast-forward to adulthood and a 25-plus year career in journalism, and a recent college course in silversmithing has reignited my passion for jewellery and the beauty behind its creation.

Every single item is inspired by Nanny B - I like to think that she would have saved up for a piece or two!
